Recent news regarding governance changes involving Nebraska Medicine has prompted questions from students, employees, alumni, and community members about what these developments mean for Clarkson College. On January 15, 2026, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved a proposal related to the governance of Nebraska Medicine. While this decision has generated public discussion, it does not change the operations or strategic direction of Clarkson College. The College remains focused on fulfilling its educational mission just as it has for 137 years.
Students can expect classes, clinical experiences, and support services to continue without disruption.
We are focused on meeting the needs of our students and the communities we serve, with continued emphasis on impeccable healthcare education and workforce preparation. “We will be committed to this work for many more generations,” said Clarkson College President and CEO Dr. Andreia Nebel. The legacy of Clarkson College, deeply rooted and historically connected to Nebraska, supports this goal.

Clarkson College was Nebraska’s first nursing school, founded in 1888. It originates from the hospital established by Bishop Robert Clarkson and his wife, Meliora Clarkson. Since then, the College has developed strong regional relationships, seamless transfer pathways with community colleges, innovative simulation and 3D learning environments, and scholarships for employees and families of partner organizations.
Clarkson College leadership and student representatives remain focused on students and professionalism. Student Senate President Serena Wilson stated at the January 15th Board of Regents meeting: “Anyone who knows the students, faculty, and staff at Clarkson College also knows that we will stay focused on what is best for our students and our patients.” Our Mission and Values — Caring, Excellence, Commitment, Integrity, and Learning — continue to guide every aspect of our work.

Clarkson College plays an important role in the education of Nebraska’s healthcare workforce. During the January 15, 2026 Nebraska Board of Regents meeting, Dr. Andreia Nebel stated: “The 13 private nonprofit higher education institutions in Nebraska are an important option for students and a critical healthcare workforce pipeline—of which Clarkson College is the largest hospital-affiliated college and the third-largest provider of distance education.”
