Hong Kong Biomedical Engineers Embrace 3D Printing Expertise at Clarkson College

A post on the social media platform LinkedIn persuaded a team of 14 biomedical engineers to visit the state-of-the-art 3D Printing & Training Center at Clarkson College. Their 7,600+ mile journey from Hong Kong to Omaha culminated in opportunities to collaborate with and learn from experts in the field of medical 3D printing technology.

Clarkson College staff and faculty members Blair Kauzlarich, Trish Weber, Monique LeHardy, Kendra Swanson, and Dr. Ron Hildago, shared their expertise, imparting invaluable knowledge to their international counterparts.

During their two-week visit, the group – employees of Hong Kong government hospitals – heard from distinguished speakers including Christian Hanson from Mayo Clinic, renowned for his specialization in silicone molding. Industry leaders from Realize Medical, of Ottawa, CN, and Materialise, Plymouth, Michigan, also played pivotal roles by offering insights into data segmentation and optimization for 3D printing.

To ensure their time in Omaha was a holistic experience, the group visited 3D labs of several local health care facilities. They explored the cutting-edge facilities at CHI Creighton Medical Center, Bergan Mercy, Children's Hospital and Medical Center, and iExcel at University of Nebraska Medical Center, gaining firsthand insights into the practical applications of 3D printing and advanced visualization in health care. The team also took time to enjoy local attractions including Henry Doorly Zoo and the Blackstone entertainment district.

Clarkson College has taken collaborative strides to push the boundaries of medical technology, exploring the limitless possibilities of personalized medicine through 3D printing as it reshapes the field of surgery and allows for meticulous pre-operative planning. More groundbreaking initiatives and innovations from the 3D Printing & Training Center at Clarkson College will be announced soon.
