Employee Spotlight: Jennifer Wilson, Assistant to the Registrar

Where are you originally from?

Glenwood, Iowa.

What brought you to Omaha?

I moved to Council Bluffs after I graduated from college and eventually crossed the river so I could be with my true soulmates (Husker fans).

What is your educational background?

I received my undergraduate degree in Communications from Buena Vista University and my Master’s degree in Management from Kaplan University.

What is your professional background?

I worked in the casino industry for eight years and then made a weird leap into higher education in 2009. I was a registrar at Kaplan University, a records consultant at Metro Community College and an academic advisor at Midland University before coming to Clarkson College.

What interested you in applying at Clarkson College?

I had a massive surgery at Clarkson Hospital and UNMC in 2012, and while it was the worst experience of my life, every single person I worked with and who took care of me was unbelievable. I told myself then I needed to work for this company someday so that I could give back. I’ve kept my eye on the job boards ever since and finally took the leap earlier this summer and applied.

What are you most looking forward to about your new position?

Working with students to prepare for graduation.

How do you enjoy spending your leisure time?

I love kickboxing and hiking. I go to a lot of concerts and sporting events, and I love to road trip. When I’m not doing any of that, though, I can be found binge watching anything on Investigation Discovery.

What is something others may not know about you?

I still have my regular old Nintendo from the 80s, and I am SO good at Mario Brothers 1, 2 and 3.
